Bowman Cellars Russian River Valley Chardonnay:
A flagship wine of Bowman Cellars is our Russian River Valley Chardonnay. Russian River Valley’s climate is heavily influenced by its proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the coastal fog that often rolls in, creating ideal conditions for growing grapes with balanced acidity and complex flavors. The cooler temperatures help to preserve the grape’s natural acidity, resulting in Chardonnay wines that are typically more crisp and well-structured compared to those from warmer regions.
The Chardonnay Vineyard:
The Chardonnay vineyard is located in the eastern most part of the Russian River Valley, between Healdsburg and Windsor. The terroir of this vineyard has unique soil and slop combinations with beautiful east facing sun exposure and the perfect amount of coastal fog influence, creates the ideal environment for this grape varietal.
Winemaking Process for Our Chardonnay:
Whole cluster, single vineyard clone 17 Chardonnay was handpicked early in the morning to preserve the fruits integrity. Bladder pressed and moved straight to stainless steel tanks for settling. After 48 hours, it was racked off the heavy lees to our barrels where the first fermentation was initiated. Once primary fermentation was complete, second fermentation began until it reached 90% malolactic fermentation conversion, providing the richness and depth that is a hallmark of our Chardonnay. Aged 11 months sur lie in a blend of French and American Oak. The barrels are regular stirred to develop a creamy texture and complex flavors. We keep 10% of our native Malic acid to preserve acidity. Creamy texture, complex flavors, and nice acidity makes it a wonderful wine for all cuisine.
Food Pairing for our Chardonnay:
One of our favorite wines at Bowman Cellars is our Russian River Valley Chardonnay because of its full body and ability to hold up to almost any cuisine. It is a great sipping wine, but a simple yet beautiful pairing is with a sharp white cheddar cheese (we love Coastal Cheddar), granny smith apple, and top it with a drizzle of local honey and micro basil. Our Chardonnay also pairs great with BBQ (but nothing to0 spicy), pasta, or a delicious homemade burger!
